David was raised in Aberdeen, and after a few years travelling and working overseas, he based himself back in his hometown where he brought up his family, while progressing a career in commercial property law. David has always had a connection to Fountainhall Church, attending Queen's Cross Nursery, becoming an Elder, and steering a number of committees through times of change. These days, he is better known for his running exploits, having set up and developed the Fit Like Joggers into one of the biggest running clubs in Scotland. He organises various running events including the BrewDog Run and Aberdeen Santa Run, and has completed over 100 marathons.
With the children now grown up, he has more time for his own adventures, and when he is not in the Cairngorms, he's likely to be taking advantage of another Ryanair deal.
For 25 years, David practiced commercial property law - high-pressure, and ever increasing demands. But the more he progressed, the less he felt satisfied. It was a classic Jevons paradox - not with coal or energy, but with time and effort. The harder he worked, the more work appeared. The happiness you expected from a successful career turned out to be the opposite.
The idea of spending the next 15 years at the same desk resulted in him making a choice that took people by surprise: he walked away from the corporate world.
He realised that buying back his time was more important than chasing the career. That happiness isn’t something you save up for - it’s something you live
And to prove it to himself, he celebrated his 50th birthday with a flight to Kathmandu. In 2025, he trekked to Everest Base Camp and ran the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon. A lifetime of reading and dreaming about Mount Everest, and finally, he got to see it with his own eyes.
This is the story of escaping the desk, chasing adventure, and finding that life after law doesn’t just exist. It’s extraordinary.
