LIVELY MINDS AT THE CROSS

Every first and third Tuesday of the month, Noon to 1.30pm, Main Hall at the Cross (Albyn Place, previously Queen's Cross Church)

Lively Minds provides a programme of events involving presentations from invited speakers from a diverse range of subjects and topics, all presented in an accessible and engaging manner.

Meetings take place in the Main Hall at Fountainhall at the Cross (previously Queen's Cross Church) and it is open to everyone. We start with a sandwich lunch and tea/coffee at noon followed by one hour presentation from around 12.30 pm until 1.30pm. £5 entry which includes lunch.

Why Torry?

The talk "Why Torry" is a look at the Royal burg of Torry some of its rich history and heritage with some facts which may surprise you. 

About the speaker...

John Dunn worked at the Marine Lab in Aberdeen for just shy of fifty years. He was awarded an MBE for advances in marine science and education. Although retired he remains an active STEM and Polar Ambassador as well as an alternative energy advocate. 

In 2020 he was made a Burgess of the city of Aberdeen.

During lockdown he has been researching and restoring along with his eldest son a 200-year-old barrel piano which came from Peru.

In 2020 he wrote and managed to get published a book called “An age of innocence” about having grown up in a small market town in Northern Ireland in the fifties, donating all monies made by the book to cancer charities, which to date locally come to over £700.

He is chairperson of Torry Heritage group who have just published the seventh book and won two awards at the Doric film festival for their film called “Dinna pit aff”.

Join us at noon in the main hall at Fountainhall at the Cross (Albyn Place, formerly Queen's Cross) for a sandwich lunch before the talk.
